A Lot on Your Plate’s Use What You’ve Got Bake-off Has Ended! *

Mini Neapolitan Cakes

This month’s category: ALL BAKED DESSERT ITEMS!

For those of you joining the bake-off for the first time, welcome!  For my returning A Lot on Your Plater’s, thanks so much for returning and welcome back :)

The A Lot on Your Plate “Use What you’ve Got Bake-off” is back and I am doing something a little differently this time around.  In the past there were specific categories for each bake-off, but to honor the new year, I am doing something new myself.  The category this month is ANY BAKED DESSERT ITEM.  This can range anywhere from cakes and cookies to pies and other baked dessert goodies!

There are TONS of extremely talented bakers, chef’s and cooks (beginners & pros), all over the world and you all deserve to be recognized!

If you are not familiar with my previous bake-offs, check out the details below!

Here’s how it works:  Simply, leave a comment below with a link to one of your new or old recipe posts that you have chosen to enter into the bake-off.  The recipes entered will be judged and based on simplicity (prep time, active time, ingredients, etc…) and the photo of the finished product, itself. The recipe will NOT be based on the quality of the photo.  (1) winner will be chosen, but all will be recognized.  The winning recipe will be posted on ALotonYourPlate.com in its entirety, photos, text, links and all.  The baker will be notified via post and email and will receive a prize hand-picked by your’s truly.  All bloggers that submit a recipe will be acknowledged in the winner’s post with a link to their recipe entered, minus the photos and the prize.

The beauty of this bake-off is that it’s ”use what you’ve got”.  I realize that people live busy lives and might not have the time to bake a new recipe from scratch for a bake-off, so you are more than welcomed to use one of your previous recipe posts to enter (or whip up a brand new one if you feel up to it and have the time).

To enter: Leave a comment below with a link to one of your recipe posts past or present.  The recipe MUST be your own and not a re-blog.

The contest will run for 3 weeks (January 22, 2013).  Again, the recipes will be judged on the simplicity of the recipe and the photo of the finished product supplied, NOT the quality of the photo, itself.

Be sure to have fun with this, you have nothing to lose, just acknowledgment to gain!

    Thank you for hosting!

  3. What a great idea this bake-off is! Super fun :)

I’ve got something rather different; a Norwegian Tower Cake. Only 3 simple ingredients and super easy to make. Sure to get your guests attention!

  4. I love your bake-offs. So I have these simple and freshly baked cranberry scones enjoyed with natural homemade cranberry preserve – Have it at tea, breakfast or whenever you want something sweet.

Those look amazing, my husband would love those for sure. Thank you so much for entering and ps: I love your blog :)

  5. Firstly, happy new year!

Yay another bake-off! Here’s a recipe for a bananas foster bread pudding with a vanilla rum sauce. The recipe itself would probably be cut in half since I made a particularly huge batch. Perfect for using up any bread and bananas lying around the house!

    http://whoneedsadiet.wordpress.com/2012/12/27/banana-foster-bread-pudding-with-vanilla-rum-sauce/

  6. We always whip up brownies when we need something in a hurry at our house. Here’s a brownie I made for my son early last month to take to rowing camp. Whipped up at a moment’s notice. Topped with dried fruit, nuts and spices I had on hand for my Christmas baking.

  7. What a wonderful idea to organise a bake-off!

Here’s a mini oven pancake canape recipe:
    http://www.nonaughties.com/mini-oven-pancake-canapes.html

It’s gluten- and sugar-free, but you can use ordinary sugar instead of xylitol, ordinary wheat flour instead of gluten-free flour and ordinary jam instead of the sugar-free one if you like. They are easy to make and they are perfect after a large meal when you don’t have much room for a pudding. They also work well in parties when you want to serve finger food.

Thank you for your great competition!

  8. Here’s a basic vanilla/Victoria sponge recipe I used recently to make a Strawberry Gateaux Birthday cake for my dear Nana’s 80th birthday .

Great competition, I’m enjoying reading all the recipe entries, thanks!

  16. Happy new year!

Here’s a recipe for Scrumptious Strawberry & Pistachio cupcakes (wheat, gluten, sugar and dairy-free! and delish)
    http://wonderlusting.co.uk/2012/12/09/strawberry-pistachio-cupcakes-sugarglutendairy-free/

    Thanks

  17. What a wonderful idea, this is my first submission – a great way to start the new year!

Here is a blog I posted last year, about my Pistachio Cake. It is my go-to recipe, because I always seem to have the ingredients in the house, and everyone is always impressed by it, despite it being easy to make. I serve it as a dessert with an orange or lemon sorbet. In the post, I have also posted my orange sorbet recipe – but it will go just as nicely with a shop bought sorbet. I hope you have fun tasting! :)

  18. Simplified Cake Balls – truly a “use it up, wear it out, make do or do without” type of recipe. I used only things I had in the house – leftover cake, white chocolate, decorations and cream cheese frosting.

    http://countrymousebakes.wordpress.com/2013/01/04/watching-the-ball-drop-onto-a-cake-pan/

  19. What a really awesome idea! I’ve been having a lot of fun scrolling through and looking what everyone else has entered. This isn’t one of my most simple (the easiest cake I’ve ever made has yet to make it onto my blog) cakes, it is however delicious and if you excuse the yoghurt icing which was a complete fail and replace it for a light dusting of icing sugar then voila!

    http://designerfoodie.com/2012/11/30/banana-cake-with-yoghurt-icing/#more-111

    Enjoy!

    • alotonyourplate says:

This is such an awesome recipe that I will def. need to make one day for my husband. He loves anything banana!!! Thanks for entering :)

  20. What a fun idea to start the new year and gain some inspiration! My Christmas cake recipe has a lot of steps but is still very easy and worth the effort – http://bakingbohemian.wordpress.com/2012/12/30/merry-christmas-2012/
    Jen

  21. Chocolate Coconut Squares – my grandmother’s recipe. Easy to make, always a hit and they’re a family favorite…mmmm!

  22. Nice idea Jessica. Really fun to follow the links to past Bake off winners and to view their desserts.

Here’s a different take on coffee cake…Chocolate Mexican Coffee Cake.
    http://savorthefood.wordpress.com/2012/12/19/chocolate-mexican-coffee-cake/

    Thanks again. :)

  23. Valentine’s Day brownies: http://kawaiikitchen.wordpress.com/2011/02/15/valentines-day-brownies/
This brownie recipe is my all-time favourite for spontaneous baking – whether it’s in the middle of the night after coming home from a party and feeling like baking or at any other time. Usually, I’ve got all ingredients at home and they’re baked pretty quickly. The chocolate ganache filling can be added to make these brownies a little more special, but they also taste great without!

  24. Happy New Years Jess! This is one of my favourite banana cake recipes complete with passionfruit icing – a bit old fashioned, simple yet completely delicious. I’m loving the challenges, cant wait to see what you’ve got in store for the rest of 2013!
    http://cateskitchenadventures.wordpress.com/2012/05/17/bake-my-day/

Here is my submission– and it’s as easy as it gets! This is my go-to recipe for potlucks and parties alike, and it’s almost always one of the first plates to go. Chocolate Saltine Toffee Bark!
    http://eatmyshortbread.wordpress.com/2012/12/05/dags-chocolate-saltine-toffee-bark/
