Day 3 (The 10 Days Of Organization) Organizing Your Accessories!

Day 3:  Organizing Your Accessories

We all have different accessories. To some, accessories may include a purse, makeup bag or wristlet, while others simply use a messenger bag and/or a wallet.  One thing is for sure, no matter what the accessory, being organized can help you when you need to find something in a hurry.  Below are some tips for helping your de-clutter and organize your accessories as we continue the 10 Days of Organization with Day 3!

Purses and Wristlets.

Step 1. Empty out your purse or wristlet completely.

Step 2. Hold your purse or wristlet over a garbage can.  Turn the bag upside down and gently shake out whatever crumbs and dirt might have gotten in there.

Step 3. Begin to put all your items back in your bag, excluding things you no longer need.

Wallets.

You’d be surprised what you find in your wallet after you clean it out.  Only keep what you absolutely need.  Be sure to shred any old or expired bank cards and toss any old club cards that you no longer use.  Remove all gift cards that are empty that you have no intention on refilling as well as business cards you no longer need. If you feel hesitant when tossing things from your wallet because you have a hunch you may need something from there in the distant future,  keep those items at home in a safe place.  Later on you can revisit these items and let go of them when you feel you are ready to ditch them.

Book bags.

This is great for your kids, no matter what age.  Make sure all papers are in the appropriate categorized folders.  Throw out any loose pieces of scrap paper that are no longer needed.  Weed out very old papers and keep them in a folder at home so you kids don’t have to carry around the extra weight in their bags.

Keep all pens and pencils together in a pencil case along with other items you may need like a pencil sharpener, glue, eraser and other miscellaneous items.

Laptop and Messenger bags.

These bags should be kept light as they usually cross over your body or way heavily on one shoulder like a purse would.  Keep only what you need in these bags such as your laptop and chargers, a few pens and some paper.  You should not try to over stuff messanger and laptop bags as this has the potential to cause strain on your neck and shoulder.

Makeup bags.

Take out all the makeup in your bag and wipe down the inside for a fresh start.  Before placing your makeup back onto your bag, make sure all of your items are sealed tightly to avoid a future mess.  Moving forward, make sure after use, all you makeup actually makes it back into your makeup bag so it doesn’t not end up lost or at the bottom of a bag in the future.

Items worth investing in for your accessories.

A key ring for your club cards.  Having  a separate key ring for your club cards not only reduces clutter on your key ring, but you only need to look at them when you need them.

Hand sanitizer.  With this being one of the worst cold & flu seasons reported since 2005, hand sanitizer is great for having on deck, helping you fight germs.  Check out a previous post of mine “How To Stay Healthy This Cold & Flu Season for other great tips on staying healthy this season!

Chapstick.  Random I know, but Chapstick is great for everyone, especially in weather like this.  You never know when you are going to need it, so I do recommend just getting one and tossing it in your bag or pocket for on the go.

Pocket pack tissues.  Another great on the go necessity.  Brands like Kleenex and Puffs offer pocket packs that allow you to bring tissues with you wherever you go!

A pencil case (for a book or messenger bag).  A pencil case will help keep your bag tidy.  It also helps avoid the occasional  accidental pencil prick you could receive when rummaging through your bag looking desperately for a pen!

Shoulder pad strap (great for your laptop or messenger bag).  A shoulder pad strap will help reduce the pressure on your neck and shoulder while carrying a bag like this.

A coin purse.  A change purse is great for any type of bag.  This helps reduce the bulkiness and clutter in your wallet as well as allows you to get to your change quickly when making a purchase.

One of my all time favorite places to shop for all things organization Special Savings clearance and sale items.  You’re sure to find a great deal there!)

  1. I need to do this so bad! I think I’ll start small with my wristlet!

  2. The Key Ring app is also available for Android – I love it! Not all the cards will scan at the store, but at least you have the number easily available.

I also find it’s helpful to carry a little mini file wallet. I keep coupons I might need in mine, and tuck those pesky receipts in there so they don’t clutter up my purse.

  3. Hey, Jess!

This series of posts is very timely and useful! I have one additional idea for the club cards…

Instead of carrying the physical card, use an app on your smartphone to store them? I took all the cards out of my wallet over a year ago and am using the free Key Ring app for iPhone (http://keyringapp.com/). Works great!

Thanks for producing a great blog! I enjoy reading it!

That is such a great idea, I can’t belie I didn’t think of that! Thank you so much for the reminder and thanks for reading!! :)
