Ways To Donate and Help The East Coast Rebuild After Hurricane Sandy
As you all know, Hurricane Sandy has affected millions of people all along the East Coast. There are many ways to help all who were affected by this storm whether it’s by donating time, money, clothes, or just helping clean up. As a fellow East Coaster, I know how important it is to help others rebuild and move on past this horrific natural disaster. I know and have seen first hand how much this storm has taken from New York alone. It has destroyed homes, businesses, cars, and other property that could take months, even years to fix, if they can be fixed at all.
Below are a list ways to help those affected by Sandy. Contact information for each effort is located on the websites linked below.
As I always say, if you are not in the position to donate anything at this time, word of mouth is another way to help spread awareness for any cause.
Please spread the word and help the East Coast rebuild and get past this horrific event.
The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is accepting donations from cars and money to food and clothing. You can even donate your airline miles. All items will be donated towards the relief efforts after Hurricane Sandy.
American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is asking for donations to help fund shelters, food, emotional support, and other’s affect by this disaster. The Red Cross is also assists others that have been affected from disasters much like Sandy. Any donation, big or small is greatly appreciated. You can call or text the Red Cross to make a $10 donation. To text, 90999 or call (800) 933-2566.
AmeriCares Disaster Relief Fund. All donations go towards helping families affected by Sandy receive the medications, medical aid, and other humanitarian aid they might need. 98% of the proceeds directly support the programs and relief effort, 2% is for the administrative costs. AmeriCare is a BBB Acredited Charity.
ASPCA also known as The American Society for the Preventing of Cruelty To Animals. The ASPCA have and currently are still rescuing and assisting thousands and thousands of animals affected by this storm.
Heart To Heart Internationl. Heart To Heart prides themselves on being the “world’s largest assembly line.” They have collected over 100,000 care kits to pass out to evacuees of Sandy and currently have a Mobile Medical Unit positioned in Long Island. K.I.D.S: Kids In Distressed Situations: K.I.D.S is a foundation that collects shoes, books, toys, clothes, and other items a child might need when faced with a distressed situation. Currently, K.I.D.S is asking for merchandise donations to help the children affect by Sandy.
Save The Children. Save The Children has already mobilized itself in the worst, hardest hit area’s of New Jersey and is currently asking for donations to help ensure addressing the needs of all children affect by Hurricane Sandy.
Feeding America. Feeding America’s mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.
The iTunes Store is currently accepting donations for Hurricane Sandy Relief.

New Jersey: New Jersey volunteers are being coordinated by calling the emergency response hot-line 1800-JERSEY-7 (1-800-537-7397).
